4 NDC big men who switched to support Akufo-Addo
It is a normal thing to lose followers and lovers as loyalty has become rare in these times. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has witnessed the loss of some of its big people to its biggest political rival, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In recent times, the NDC has had to deal with the situation where some of its formerly big people withdrew support from the party.
These people are seen to be in ‘bed’ with the NDC’s political rival, the NPP.
YEN.com.gh brings you four of these big men who switched support from the NDC to the NPP.
1. Allotey Jacobs: The former leading member of the NDC, and former Central Regional Minister, turned against the party in the early months of 2020, making all sorts of claims and accusations against the party.

One time, he said that no NDC communicator can match the wisdom of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia. Following these and other comments, the NDC suspended Allotey Jacobs for what they described as “antiparty conduct”.
He has still not been reinstated as a member of the party. Allotey has, also in recent times, praised the NPP and President Akufo-Addo. Recently, a photo he took with the president trended on social media.
2. Jerry John Rawlings: The founder of the NDC, and late former president, before his death, showed much dislike for the NDC and its leaders, John Evans Atta-Mills, and John Dramani Mahama.
He accused the “new crop” of NDC leaders of shunning the basic fundamentals the party stands for, thereby, withdrawing his support from them. J.J, as he was popularly referred to, once criticising the NDC saying that the party was also full of “babies with sharp” teeth.
His loyalty to the party he founded was largely questioned especially after his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, broke off from the NDC and formed her own party National Democratic Party (NDP).
3. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings: The former first lady and wife of the NDC founder, the late J.J. Rawlings, was also full of criticisms for the NDC. She confirmed her withdrawal from the party when she formed her own political party with a similar name as the NDC – National Democratic Party (NDP).
Konadu went as far as using the NDC party colours for her party. The only difference is the symbol – the NDC has an umbrella, while the NDP has a dove. By establishing her own party, Konadu proved that she no longer had any business with the NDC.
4. Martin Amidu: Martin Amidu was the former minister for the interior in John Evans Atta-Mills’ government. However, he fell apart from the party following some misunderstanding he had with the leaders.

Amidu also questioned the integrity of the leaders leading to his suspension. He followed up with the suspension with a letter to disassociate herself from the NDC. He then became the Special Prosecutor when the NPP won the 2016 election with Akufo-Addo.
However, Amidu has resigned from that position. He has accused the NPP again of interfering in his work as the special prosecutor.
He said he was no longer interested in serving as Special Prosecutor as his independence was being hindered by the government.
The president has duly noted Amidu's resignation letter and has directed for some arrears to be paid to him.
