Tesla's chief executive officer, Elon Musk, has now overtaken Bill Gates to become the second richest person in the world.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the year 2020 has been a lucrative one for the wealthiest people in the world.

According to Bloomberg, Musk now has a net worth of $127.9 billion (N48,755,480,000,000). This is largely due to the surge in Tesla's share price.

YEN.com.gh notes that the billionaire added $100.3 billion (N38,234,360,000,000) to his net worth in 2020.

Gates, who is the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, has a net worth of $127.7 billion (N48,679,240,000,000). The figure would have been much higher if he wasn't donating massively to charity over the years.

He was unseated as the world's richest man in 2017 by Jeff Bezos, who still maintains the position.

Gates has given more than $27 billion to his namesake foundation since 2006.
