Policeman allegedly caught on bank's CCTV stealing coins

- A police officer has been allegedly caught stealing from a bank he was posted to on guard duties

A policeman at Ajumako in the Central region, Sergeant George Amankwa has been reportedly caught stealing from a bank he was posted to on guard duties.

According to a report YEN.com.gh has sighted on MyNewsGH, Sergeant Amankwa allegedly stole coins amounting to GH690 from the Ajumako branch of Enyan Denkyira Rural Bank.

The indicated that the police who has currently been detained was caught after the bank's CCTV footage was reviewed following the missing of some money.

The branch manager is reported to have detected that some coins were missing and reported the matter while two tellers named as Hannah Ekua Obenewaa Appiah and Scholarship Assifuah Ninson were blamed.

But Appiah and Ninson denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of the coins saying they had balanced their accounts before leaving.

After their denial, the manager and some police personnel resorted to replaying the CCTV footage.

To their surprise, the footage revealed Sergeant Amankwa who was on guard duties at the bank on Friday, November 20, 2020, stealing coins from the drawers in the cages of the two tellers.

A report was made to the Divisional Commander ACP Owoahene Agyei Acheampong who called the sergeant.

Amankwa is said to have admitted to stealing the money while disclosing that he had spent it.

Following his confession, a caution statement was taken from him and he was detained pending further action.
