Date, venue and other details for Rawlings' state funeral finally released

Details for the state funeral for the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings, have been finally released.
The funeral for the late former president who is Ghana's longest-serving leader will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
This was contained in a statement released by the funeral planning committee on Monday, November 2020.

The statement sighted by YEN.com.gh further disclosed that the funeral will be held at the Independence Square.
"The family of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings has in consultation with the Government, agreed that the date for the State funeral of the former President is confirmed for Wednesday, 23rd December 2020 at the Independence Square in Accra," the statement partly read.
According to the statement signed by the head of the planning committee, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, the family was still in consultation with government on the final details of the funeral and will communicate any further information.
The statement further directed all those interested in writing tributes for Rawlings to send them to tributes@jjrawlingsmemorial.org.
Former President Rawlings passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Rawlings was receiving treatment at Ghana's premier health facility after he was taken ill for a short period.
Born on June 22, 1947, he was 73 years old when he passed away.
Rawlings' death came almost two months after his mother, Madam Victoria Agbotui, died. Madam Agbotui died in September after celebrating her 101st birthday the same month.
A state funeral was organised for her on October 24, 2020, and it took barely three weeks after her burial for Rawling s to join her on the other side.
Just like their deaths which are two months apart, their burial and funerals will also be two months apart.
