The fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey seems to be a very hard battle to win.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that even though he is campaigning to be retained in power, his position on galamsey is still the same.
Akufo-Addo noted how much he abhors the practice which has destroyed our forests and waterbodies and does not regret openly fighting against it.

Speaking to residents of Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region during his campaign tour of the Region, Nana Addo said the government is rolling out a new community mining policy that seeks to protect the environment.
“That is what I said and I still stand by it, and I am not changing my mind on it. We are coming up with policies that will make mining in the country better which is the community mining, which will not collapse the jobs of those involved in it,'' he said.
President Akufo-Addo said Mahama does not understand government’s plans for improving the activities of galamsey in the country.
He therefore urged those involved in mining not to listen to the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
"Don’t listen to someone (Mahama) who knows nothing about what we are doing and is just on a promising spree,” he added.
The Akufo-Addo government has among other things been accused of allowing foreigners to mine Ghana’s gold resources while Ghanaians engaged in galamsey are arrested and jailed.
Former President John Mahama had promised to free such persons jailed for engaging in galamsey if he wins power.
In other news, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced another prayer and fasting five days to the much anticipated December 7 general elections.
Codenamed ‘the final onslaught’, the event would be held from Thursday, December 3 to Saturday, December 5, 2020, dedicated to seeking God’s mercies and guidance in the December elections.
