Free SHS: Ghanaian house boy gets scholarship to pursue dream of becoming a lawyer

A teenager who recently graduated from the Kadjebi Asato Senior High School in the Volta Region has been granted a scholarship to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer and politician.
The teenager grew up in poverty and in an underserved village in the Volta Region but overcame the odds, and all his hard work has finally paid off.
A post shared by the deputy communications officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Afia Akoto, revealed that the teenager works as her house help and previously worked with a foreign-owned company to make ends meet.

Recounting the teenager's early struggles, Afia Akoto disclosed that the boy used to live in a rented container with three other friends in Ts3 Addo.
''I am a passionate person and emotional with true-life issues. Over 2months ago, we employed a house boy, and we interviewed him before giving him the job. He is a young boy from the Volta Region who loves God and aside from working in one of these foreign-owned companies. He also was serving in Church because of his love for God. He lived with three friends same age in a rented container in Ts3 Addo,'' her post read.
With a dream of becoming a lawyer, the determined young man moved to Accra to work to fund his undergraduate degree at the university. His fate aligned with Akoto's family.
''We told him we will do our best to help his dreams come true but never even bothered to ask for his [WASSCE] certificate,'' Afia Akoto said.
She disclosed the boy applied and has received a scholarship to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer and politician.
''I had a prompt that the young man has used me as his reference for his application on the scholarship secretariat portal. So I called my son (the boy) to send me a copy of his certificate ... Today, my house boy for two months, whose dreams and hopes to enter the university, is finally here. The only opportunity that grants permission for the rich and the poor to sit at the same table as one people is education.''

In other news, YEN.com.gh previoulsy reported that a senior high school graduate, simply identified as Mansah, has impressed a man with her rare talent as a professional barber.
Mansah is making ends meet in a field dominated by men as she runs a barbering shop at Sampah Valley in the Greater Accra Region.
In a post shared on Facebook, Okyere, Osei Kwame Okyere, a social media user, recounted his experience with the teenage barber, who is a product of the Free SHS policy.
