- Freddy Blay, a firebrand of the NPP wants voters to reject John Mahama
- The party chairman suggests Mahama’s term as president was over in 2016
- Political scientists predict a landslide victory for Akufo Addo in this election
Leader of the incumbent NPP, Freddy Blay, is of a strong conviction that the Presidential Candidate of the opposition NDC is contesting the polls on Monday for his own selfish reasons - to make wealth and enrich himself and family.
In an open publication, the party lead remarked that one of the mistakes John Mahama ever made in his political career is to forget that his presidency ended when he lost the 2016 general elections.
Freddy Blay continues to say that; “Mr. Mahama’s renewed presidential aspiration was born out of shock, confusion and the urge to satisfy self-ego. His intentions do not genuinely stem from a sincere desire to provide better development policy alternatives to the masses.”
The stakes are high in this election. Pollster, Ben Ephson, has predicted that Akufo Addo will be the victor of the elections. The prediction, Mahama has condemned stating he remains confident of winning the polls.
In his public letter, the party chairman wonders why the former commander of the Ghaan Armed Forces is not acting as a past president. He wishes John Mahama, at least, follows the footsteps of John Kufuor - who is now seen as a unifier and authority of statesmanship.
“Mr. John Mahama has served Ghana in different capacities, enjoying several benefits and entitlements. He has a unique opportunity of contributing significantly to nation building in many ways other than contesting to be President of Ghana again.
He insists that Mahama should rather consider acting as a statesman. He wants the former president to serve on the board of the United Nations. He believes Mahama's influence there will be more impressive than his scramble for reelection.
John Dramani Mahama and Akufo Addo both bring massive social intervention promises to the campaign trail. Meanwhile, election scientists from the University of Legon believe the massive Free SHS program together with the Nation Builders Corps gives the president a good chance to lead a massive win in the elections.
