- Executives of the main opposition NDC in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency have blamed attacks on their parliamentary candidate on the NPP
- Spokesperson for the NDC parliamentary candidate claims he was attacked at home by NPP officials
- The NPP has rejected these claims
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency is accusing the NPP of masterminding attacks on its Parliamentary Candidate a few days to the elections.
The party believes the attitude exhibited by the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Constituency is a recipe for disaster and when not dealt with can destabilise the peace in the area.
Addressing a press conference, the campaign spokesperson of the parliamentary candidate, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko - Kwesi Lawer, expressed worry about how some hoodlums suspected to be NPP members attacked the candidate in his residence.
He alleged that on the evening of Thursday, December, 3, these hoodlums believed to be NPP members attacked the parliamentary candidate with stones but escaped unhurt.
According to him, parts of his vehicle were damaged in front of his house. He said other similar attacks have been unleashed on their members during the campaign period, leading to what he says is the wrongful arrest of six of the NDC members a few weeks ago.
Mr Lawer stated that the NDC believed in peace and democracy, hence will not do anything to disturb the peace in the area.
While accusing the District police commander, Superintendent John Yeboah of siding with the NPP ,he called for an external police force in the constituency on election day to ensure peace because, according to him the NDC are not afraid of the hoodlums and may be compelled to retaliate.
The NDC are bent on taking back the Upper Manya Krobo constituency seat from NPP after it lost it to its bitterest rival, the NPP during the 2016 elections.
