The debate on who should cover the bill during the first date has been a subject of hot debate for several years.

While most men usually pay for first dates, some normally expect to split it with the lady on a 50-50 basis and women are under normal conditions advised to prepare themselves in case of any eventuality.

A single journalist however, has insisted men should cover the bill on first date.

Jana Hocking, a radio producer from Sydney, Australia, argued she's turned off when a guy asks her to settle her part of the share, Daily Mail reported.

"So let us end this debate once and for all and just say, blokes pay for the first date. It is hot, it is manly, and will have us bragging to our friends,' the 36-year-old opined.

She based her argument on Helen Fisher, a senior research fellow at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University in the United States of America, who said: 'Women want to know if a man will spend his resources on her.

Hocking said she would accept to split the bill on the second date if the man expressed interest on meeting her again.

"I have been on dates when I' have known fairly early that the guy wasn't for me and absolutely insisted on paying half, because I could not live with the guilt of walking away knowing he had just splurged on a big bill for nothing," she added.

In a related story, a woman has lamented after her date did nothing about her KSh 4,000 fare.

The Nigerian lady with the Twitter handle @miss_ezeani sparked debate on social media after saying she paid fare to go on a date with a man who did not refund her.
