Elections 2020: The signs are clear; we are winning - NDC declares

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it’s winning the ongoing general elections.

Addressing a news conference in Accra moments earlier, the director of elections of the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah announced: “The victory of NDC is coming; the signs are clear.”

Touching on the voting thus far, Ankrah, described the process as largely smooth across the country.

He urged the Electoral Commission to extend the period of voting in places where electoral materials were sent in late.

Meanwhile, some officials of the commission in the Ashanti region are reportedly asking electorates to vote for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Citing the Ashanti regional secretary of the NDC, Kwame Zu, Starrfm.com.gh reported that some voters in the region were also handed already thumb-printed ballot papers “to drop in the ballot boxes.”

“We are monitoring and we believed that it could have been worst,” Ankrah said. “The EC must address this.”

Urging the party’s agents across the country to be vigilant and protect the ballot boxes, Ankrah said: “Follow the ballot boxes when they are being transferred. Rise and follow the ballot boxes.”

In a separate development, the NDC in the Greater Accra region alleged officials of the elections management body in the Klottey Korle Constituency allowed one security personnel to vote multiple times.

According to the party’s regional chairman, Ade Coker, the said personnel, voted in the special voting exercise held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

At least 109,557 persons took part in that exercise held at 311 centres across the country.

In an earlier, YEN.com.gh report, one person had been arrested in the Western region in relation to the ongoing general elections across the country.

The arrest, which happened at Whindo in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality followed attempts by some residents to stop electoral officers from accessing polling centres in the community, state-owned Daily Graphic reported.
