The provisional results for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections have started trickling in after polls closed at 5 pm nationwide.
Polls opened at 7 am on Monday, December 7, 2020, for eligible voters to cast their ballots for their preferred candidates in the tightly-contested race.
Electoral Commission (EC) officials and political party agents are at the various collating centres across the country where counting is underway.

The general secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has served notice that the party will challenge parliamentary results of five constituencies in court.
Boadu made the disclosure in an interview with the media at the residence of incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday.

EC should declare the 2020 presidential results in detail - NDC
The minority leader of Ghana's seventh parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has underscored the need for the Electoral commissioner Jean Mensah, to declare the 2020 presidential results with details.
According to him, in declaring the presidential results from the just-ended 2020 general elections, the EC must endeavor to mention the details from all the over 33,000 polling stations.

61 electoral and post-electoral incidents recorded nationwide
The Joint Operation Centre of the NESTF has recorded a total of 61 electoral and post-electoral incidents nationwide.
Twenty-one of the incidents are true cases of electoral violence, six of which involve gunshots resulting in the death of five.

The governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Odododiodoo, Nii Lante Bannerman, says he was disappointed in the outcome of Monday’s poll.
The NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, retained the Odododiodioo parliamentary seat.
He polled 41,446 votes out of the total ballots cast while Bannerman trailed behind with 34,887 votes.

The flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, aka “Osofo Kyiri Abosom”, has just called President Akufo-Addo to congratulate him on his victory in the election.

Elections 2020: Polls too close to call; stop premature congratulations - PPP
The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Brigitte Dzogbenuku, has cautioned those congratulating incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo, as Ghana’s president-elect to stop.
“We would like to place on record that the PPP shall be the first to congratulate the EC’s declared winner of the presidential race,” she said in a statement on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
“In this regard, premature congratulations are out of order, particularly at this time when the election is too close to call.”
Rains, others affected results declaration timeline – EC
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa has said rains and other challenges affected the commission’s 24 hours’ timeline to declare results.
“We express our regret for our inability to declare the results at 5 pm on Tuesday as planned,” Mensa said.
Akufo-Addo projected to win the 2020 presidential election
President Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP will win the 2020 presidential election based on results from 270 out of the 275 constituencies in the country, Accra-based Peace FM has projected.
According to the Peace FM data, Akufo-Addo has garnered 6,579,032 votes, representing 51.5% of the total valid votes cast. John Mahama of the NDC has won 6,022,617 votes, representing 47.1%. The vote difference between the two candidates stands at 561,654 votes, and Mahama cannot catch up in the five remaining constituencies.

John Dumleo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has called for a recount, following his defeat to the NDC candidate, Lydia Alhassan.
Dumelo cited irregularities in the vote-counting process, asserting that his votes were swapped with those of his opponent in some constituencies.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye beats Nii Lante Bannerman to win Odododiodoo seat
Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has beaten his NPP rival, Nii Lante Bannerman, to win the constituency's parliamentary seat.
Vanderpuye had earlier been arrested by the police after violence broke out in the constituency.
Vanderpuye garnered 41,446 votes, while Bannerman polled 34,887 votes.

Francis Sosu Xavier, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Madina Constituency, has beaten the NPP's Boniface Abu-Bakar Saddique in Tuesday's presidential election.
Out of the 110,403 total votes cast, Sosu Xavier secured 62,127 votes, beating Saddique, who had 46,785, by 15,342 votes.
Collation of Election Results proceeding smoothly across the country - EC
The EC has assured Ghanaians that the collation of the 2020 election results is proceeding smoothly across the country.

NDC general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has stressed that the NPP has won 141 seats in parliament and by implication, the majority.
Nketia said NDC winning the majority meant their presidential candidate, John Mahama, had also won the presidency by correlation, adding that the NDC presidential candidate would be declared president tomorrow.
"With this clear majority, it means the NDC will select the next Speaker and the next first Deputy Speaker of Parliament....Collation so far shows that former President Mahama is ahead and we are expecting that the EC will come out and declare him the next president-elect ,” he said.
Election 2020: Mahama closes in on Akufo-Addo as fresh results from NPP strongroom drop
New figures have popped up from the New Patriotic Party (NPP's) collation centre or strongroom as popularly known.
The new projections in the NPP's strongroom has the NDC's John Mahama closing in on President Nana Akufo-Addo as compared to earlier projections by the NPP.
The latest projection is reporting of results from 37,628 polling stations (96.13% of total polling stations). According to the results projected and sighted by YEN.com.gh, Akufo-Addo has won 6,557,101 votes while John Mahama has 5,989,168 votes.
This brings the supposed gap between Akufo-Addo which was over 700,000 votes at the time of the press conference to around 570,000 votes.

There is a heavy police presence in and around the National Collation Centre at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC) at Ridge in Accra ahead of the declaration of the results of the presidential elections.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Chair of the EC, Jean Adukwei Mensa, who is also the Chief Returning Officer for the presidential election, will be announcing the results of the polls today Tuesday, December 8.

Kofi Adams heads to parliament as he wins the Buem constituency seat
Former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has won the Buem constituency seat for the party and will be one of the new faces in parliament in 2021.
He polled 18,528 votes in the constituency after the Monday, December 7 election to beat his closest contender, the NPP’s Lawrence Kwame Aziale who also garnered 6,843 votes.
The Buem constituency which used to be in the Volta region has now fallen within the Oti Region after the creation of six new regions.

After several hours of collation characterised by few misunderstandings, the wife of former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman was declared the winner of the seat by Electoral Commission (EC) at Saltpond on Tuesday morning.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye fulfills Akufo-Addo’s ‘prophesy’; retains Odododiodio seat
Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has retained the Odododiodio constituency seat for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former sports minister defeated Nii Lante Bannerman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), collecting 40,502 of the valid votes cast, YEN.com.gh gathered.
Bannerman had 34, 289 of the valid votes cast.
EC’s office in Fomena set ablaze
The Electoral Commission (EC’s) office in the Fomena Constituency of the Ashanti region has been razed down by fire.
The fire was started by some disgruntled persons who were unhappy with the commission’s declaration of results in Monday’s elections in the constituency.
Classfmonline reports that personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were on the scene working assiduously to douse the flame.
Election 2020: Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings retains Korle Klottey seat
The incumbent Member of Parliament of Korle Klottey NDC’s Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has managed to win the parliamentary seat in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
Reports coming in from the collation centre has it that the daughter of late former president JJ Rawlings polled 39,193 votes to retain the seat.
She beat her closest contender, New Patriotic Party's Prince Appiah Debrah who managed some 31,239 votes.

Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has been released from police custody, reports say.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, December 8 following a shooting incident at the Modak Hotel, where he was lodging.
Ayawaso West Wuogon: Lydia Alhassan defeats John Dumelo
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Mrs Lydia Seyram Alhassan has retained her seat after polling 39,851 out of 77,604 total votes.
Her closest competitor actor Mr John Dumelo of the NDC polled 37,778 while an independent candidate got 108 votes.
Fomena: Sacked NPP MP Asiamah returns as independent MP
Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah is returning to Parliament as an Independent Member of Parliament (MP) days after his seat was declared vacant by the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye.
Mr Asiamah was the former occupant of the Fomena parliamentary seat but lost his berth following his decision to contest for re-election as an independent candidate after he lost the New Patriotic Party primary.

2020 polls: Akufo-Addo is in incontestable lead – NPP
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says its independent collation of the election projects a 52.87% win for President Nana Akufo-Addo while the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama is trailing behind with 49.3% of the national votes.
At an earlier press conference, the NDC’s Director of Elections, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, insisted that its independent collation of results show that the stakes are high for the party’s flagbearer and parliamentary candidates.
Nana Konadu applauds EC for smooth electoral process
The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for conducting a smooth election.
Commenting on the EC’s commitment to declare results of the general election 24 hours after the close of polls, the former First Lady said: “If they are doing electronic voting, I do not see how it cannot be done in 24 hours.”
I'll win when all votes are verified - John Dumelo says as Maa Lydia lead by 2,000
John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has released a statement indicating he is highly optimistic about winning the MP seat.
In a Twitter post on his verified handle sighted by YEN.com.gh, Dumelo turned a blind eye to all reports suggesting that he had lost the election.
"We are still waiting for the Electoral commission to declare the final results. By the projection, I am in pole position to win when all the results are verified by the EC," he said.
NaCCA boss wins Kweesimintim seat for NPP
The Head of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Prince Hamid Armah, won the Kwesimintim seat on the ticket of the governing NPP.
Armah collected 24,785 of the total valid votes cast while his closest contender Philip Buckman also polled 13,409 votes, Starrfm.com.gh reported.
He takes over from incumbent MP, Joseph Mensah.
John Mahama wins Dormaa West Constituency
Former president John Mahama has won the presidential contest in the Dormaa West Constituency of the Bono Region.
Mahama recorded 11328 (52.26%) while Akufo-Addo had 9607 (44.34%).
Akufo-Addo wins Dormaa Central Constituency
President Nana Akufo-Addo has won the presidential race at Dormaa Central in the Bono Region. Akufo-Addo recorded 29,159 votes while Mahama had 19, 219 votes.
Cape Coast North MP Barbara Ayesha Ayisi loses relection
Barbara Ayesha Ayisi, the incumbent MP for Cape Coast North and former deputy education minister, has lost her seat to the NDC's Dr Kwamina Minta Nyarku.
Provisional results show that Minta Nyarku polled 22,972 votes while Barbara Ayisi's recorded 21,643.
Lydia Alhassan declares victory in Ayawaso West Wuogon as she leads Dumelo by 2000 votes
The NPP's Lydia Alhassan has declared victory in the Ayawaso West parliamentary race.
With 99% of the votes counted, Lydia leads the NDC candidate, John Dumelo, by over 2000 votes.
In a tweet on Tuesday morning, she wrote: "Thank you God for an answered prayer. Thank you Ayawaso West Wuogon for this Victory. I take my scripture from Proverbs 21:31."
With only one polling station left to count, Lydia has 39,723 votes, representing 51.20%. Dumelo has 37,595 votes, representing 48.46%.

The incumbent MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan, is currently leading her NDC opponent, John Dumelo, by 2128 votes.
With 99.52% of polling station results counted, Lydia has 39,723 votes, representing 51.20%. Dumelo has 37,595 votes, representing 48.46%.
There is only one polling station result outstanding.
Dumelo says he is in "pole position" to win Ayawaso West
John Dumelo, a Ghanaian actor and parliamentary contender in the Ayawaso West Constituency, has rejected media reports that he is losing to Lydia Alhassan of the NPP in the election.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday morning, Dumelo said that he was in a pole position to win and urged Ghanaians to wait for the official declaration by the EC.
3 shot dead at Odododiodio as MP Nii Lante Vanderpuye gets arrested
Three people have been shot dead in the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra region after electoral violence broke out there, according to a report by UTV.
The MP for the area, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.

NPP claims victory in 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has claimed that is leading in the 2020 general elections.
At a press conference held in Accra, the party said its collation of election results from across the country show that the party will retain its majority in parliament.
John Boadu, the NPP general secretary, who led the press conference, made the claim as he rejected an earlier assertion by National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the opposition party had flipped many parliamentary seats and was on course to win the majority in the house.
The NPP also stated that their candidate, President Akufo-Addo, was leading the presidential race by 52.72% to Mahama's 45.93%, with 87% of the votes counted.
