Election 2020: Fantana's mum, Dorcas Toffey recaptures Jomoro seat for NDC

The mother of Ghanaian dancehall musician Fantana, Dorcas Nda-Affo Toffey has recaptured the Jomoro parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC from the NPP.

She snatched the seat from the incumbent member of parliament, Paul Essien who occupied the seat from 2016.

Paul Essien, who was the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs in 2016 beat the NDC Parliamentary candidate to represent the constituents.

This happens to be the first time the mother of Rufftown record’s signee has contested in a general election.

It is believed Shatta Wale’s endorsement and campaign influenced the outcome of the parliamentary elections in Jomoro constituency considering his influence in the showbiz industry.

Over 17 million voters were expected to take part in the December 7 election, having endured a challenging year due to the raging coronavirus pandemic.

The leading front runners in the 2020 polls are incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo, representing the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

Ten other candidates are also in the race to be elected as president to manage the affairs of the country, with 275 single-member seats in parliament up for election as well.

Polls opened from 7 am and it will end at 5 pm in 38,622 polling stations in all the 275 constituencies nationwide.

The 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections will go down in Ghana's electoral history as the biggest slate of candidates since the country began democracy.
