Election 2020: James Gardiner consoles John Dumelo after losing to Maa Lydia

Actor, James Gardiner, has consoled his colleague after failing to win the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dumelo lost to the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan (Maa Lydia) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dumelo, standing on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) faced off with the incumbent MP Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The actor polled 37,778 votes against Alhassan's 39,851 meaning he lost by a little over two thousand votes.

However, Gardiner who supported Dumelo prior to the election on Monday, December 7, 2020, has showered praises on his colleague actor for putting up a good fight.

In an Instagram post seen by YEN.com.gh, Gardiner commended Dumelo despite losing to Maa Lydia.

He wrote,"@johndumelo1 Kofi it’s normal to feel down and disappointed after all the applaudable hard work you put in during this campaign season. It was commendable and I want you to be proud of yourself! . Let us not delve into figures and percentages but the outcome clearly shows that it was a close call (the very first time in the Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency)."

The award-winning actor added, "Though it didn’t go in your favor, you still made history. Build on that and never take your foot off the pedals. Remember that what defines us is how well we rise after we fall. You fought a good fight. Pick up from where you left off and march on with high shoulders and your head high. We move! #idey4u."

Meanwhile, Dumelo has announced his decision to call for a recount of the ballots in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary elections.

In a statement released on his social media pages on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Dumelo indicated that he had written to the district electoral officer for a recount of the ballots across the constituency.

According to Dumelo, his decision for a recount stems from widespread irregularities across polling stations in the constituency.
