Akufo-Addo projected to win 2020 presidential election

- Accra-based Peace FM has projected Nana Akufo-Addo as the winner of Ghana election 2020

- With results in 270 constituencies collated, Akufo-Addo is leading by 561,654 votes

- There only 239,564 votes remaining in the five outstanding constituencies and Mahama cannot catch up

President Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP will win the 2020 presidential election based on results from 270 out of the 275 constituencies in the country, Accra-based Peace FM has projected.

According to the Peace FM data, Akufo-Addo has garnered 6,579,032 votes, representing 51.5% of the total valid votes cast. John Mahama of the NDC has won 6,022,617 votes, representing 47.1%.

The vote difference between the two candidates stands at 561,654 votes.

With only 239,564 registered voters remaining in the five outstanding constituencies, the Peace FM projection stated that it was mathematically impossible for Mahama to catch up with Akufo-Addo and force a run-off.

Therefore, Akufo-Addo has won the 2020 presidential election and will be declared the winner by the Electoral Commission (EC), the projected noted.

The projection comes as the commission prepares to officially declare the winner in an election that has kept the nation on edge since Monday.

The EC has also said that it would clarify the winner of the majority in Ghana's parliamentary elections.

Both parties have claimed victory in parliament, with Mahama, earlier, accusing the government of using the military to try and overturn what he said was the NDC's victory in the parliamentary elections.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Jean Mensa, the EC chairperson, said the commission was still collating parliamentary results and would share the results with the public soon.

"...we will make this information available to you as in the number of seats in Parliament and which political party has the majority in Parliament to put the issue of the number of seats to rest," she said.
