KNUST supplementary exams (resit) registration and timetable

Every student desires to pass their semester exams in one sitting and graduate with great grades. For some students, this is a possibility; others have to take some of their courses more than once. For students who have to sit for exams again, the KNUST supplementary exams provide an opportunity to make up for such lapses.

In August of every year, supplementary examinations are always conducted at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Apart from the scheduled August exams, students can also choose to do the examinations during the semester's main examination. These exams are usually conducted a month before the resumption of the new academic year.

Overview of KNUST resit exams

KNUST resit exams allow students to make up for courses failed during the semester. These exams are open to all students, regular and distance learning, of the institution, who are either yet to complete their academic programs or ought to have completed them but for some reasons failed. These examinations are always applied for and done in person.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, the management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) decided to move its academic activities online. This decision was made on the 8th of July, 2020, during the 386th meeting of the academic board.

To that effect, supplementary exams at KNUST for the 2019/2020 academic year would be conducted online. Due to the medium to be used, examiners were given the option of assessing students through written assignments and quizzes.

Examination schedule

The online resit examinations were scheduled to be done from 18th July to 2nd August 2020 for both regular and distance learning undergraduates. Also, the KNUST resit registration was carried out online using the "Register/Pay for Resit" tab in the STS portal after the necessary payments were made.

Online registration is reserved for students who are continuing their education. The maximum credit hours that can be registered by any student is 18 credit hours, and this is strictly for courses that were failed, that is, courses with grades E or F.

The deadline for the registration for resit exams was the 30th of June, 2020. After this, the list of registered students was expected to be compiled and sent to the various departments to start setting the examination questions.

In a release published on the 10th of September, 2020, the supplementary examination at KNUST was rescheduled. This was as a result of the challenges encountered during the online assessments. The examinations were done from the 12th to 16th of October, 2020, after the registration held from the 9th to 11th of October, 2020.

KNUST resit registration for students who should have completed their programs

For students who ought to have completed their academic programs but are unable due to some courses owed, their registration mode differs from continuing students. The procedure for these students are as follows:

  1. Before beginning the application process, the students are to check their fee payment schedule. This will let them know exactly what to pay for their outstanding courses.
  2. Such students should download the appropriate resit approval form. It should be printed, and the necessary information filled.
  3. The filled form should be sent to the relevant departments for approval, and another copy added to the department's records. One more copy is to be presented to the student's College Academic Office for investigations and approval.
  4. After the above steps have been completed, payment can then be made at the cash office.
  5. To complete the registration, students present the receipt of payment and the endorsed form to their College Academic Office to complete their registration.
  6. As part of the registration process, such students acquire a provisional ID from the College Academic Office. The ID will be used during the examinations and collected a week before the start of exams.

KNUST supplementary exams timetable

After the concerned students have completed their registration processes, a list of their details would be compiled and sent to the necessary departments. Afterward, the Teaching and Examinations Unit of the university will draw up an examination timetable in collaboration with the respective colleges.

Before the reversal to physical examinations, the initially proposed timeline for the examinations was as shown:

  • Payment and registration deadline: Monday, 15th of June – Tuesday, 30th of June, 2020.
  • Sending the list of registered students and their courses to the respective departments: Friday, 3rd of July.
  • Release of examination timetable: Monday, 6th of July – Friday, 10th of July, 2020.
  • Supplementary resit examination for regular students: 18th of July to the 1st of August, 2020.
  • Supplementary resit examination for distance education students: 31st of July to 2nd of August, 2020

With the reversal to a physical examination after the challenges faced with the online ones, the timeline has been adjusted accordingly and another one released to that effect. The timetable for the supplementary exams at KNUST has been released, and it is available on the school's portal.

KNUST resit examinations fee

The exams' fees are priced according to the number of courses students are expected to do. Also, the nature of their programs, whether undergraduate, masters, or PhD, is also considered.

Moreover, the undergraduate programs' fees vary according to the departments, which are humanities, science, agriculture, and administration. Students who have long exceeded the time frame for registering their outstanding courses are charged differently and a lot higher than their counterparts.

Applications for the KNUST supplementary exams for the 2019/2020 session have ended, and the examinations have already been conducted. If for any reason, you were unable to make the KNUST resit registration for this year, you could wait till the next academic year to take your outstanding courses.
