Akufo-Addo garnered over 51 per cent of the total valid votes cast while Mahama polled a little over 47 per cent.

Prior to the official declaration, Akufo-Addo had been projected as the winner by many of Ghana's leading media houses including Multimedia (JoyNews) and Despite Media (Peace FM).

With the projections in their favour, Akufo-Addo and his supporters had anticipated the declaration to come their way and were poised for massive jubilation.

And so it was after the declaration as Akufo-Addo's family, friends, appointees, leading members of NPP, and supporters trooped into his house at Nima to congratulate him.

Photos shared by the president's official Facebook page on Thursday, December 10, 2020, which have been sighted by YEN.com.gh show it was an exciting moment.

Among the many prominent people were Vice President Dr Mahamaudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, Chief of Staff, Frema Opare, NPP Chairman Freddie Blay, Minister of Trade Alan Kyeremateng, and NPP General Secretary John Boadu.
