The governing Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region says it prevented Togolese from voting in the just-ended general elections in the region.

The party collected a combined tally of 204,346 of the valid votes cast in both Oti and Volta, a huge jump from 2016 figures of 135,077.

Ghanaian voters were at the polls on Monday, December 7, 2020, to cast their ballots to elect a president and 275 legislators to represent them in parliament.

Over 14 million voters took part in the elections, having endured a challenging year due to the raging coronavirus.

Incumbent, President Nana Akufo-Addo, was declared the winner of the elections by the country’s Electoral Commission (EC) on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, December 10, 2020, the Volta regional youth organiser of the NPP, Korsi Bodja, disclosed that Togolese who attempted to vote in the elections were stopped.

“It has always been the game of the NDC to bring in people from Togo pretending that, oh! these are our brothers and sisters and they have taken advantage of this for a very long time,” Bodja was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama rejected the results of the 2020 elections, describing it as fundamentally flawed. He further noted that Jean Mensa's declaration of the results was a clear violation of the law because it did not follow the rules set out to conduct the elections.

Supporters of the NDC since the declaration of Akufo-Addo, the winner of the elections embarked on a series of demonstrations to express their disgust over what they said was rigged polls nationwide.

YEN.com.gh has gathered that the team of fact-finders deployed by the NDC to collate evidence of vote-rigging completed their task on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

Private legal practitioner and member of the legal team of the party, Abraham Amaliba disclosed this to Accra-based Starr FM.

He said the discoveries made by the party during the fact-finding mission would shock Ghanaians.
