After the declaration, the EC has made some corrections in the percentages of votes Akufo-Addo and his main contender, John Mahama, both polled.

The corrections have led to a lot of criticism for Jean Mensa and the Electoral Commission on social media.

Also, former President John Mahama officially rejected the results of the 2020 presidential election.

According to him, there were violations of the law governing the election and thus makes EC's declaration tantamount to illegality.

The NDC presidential candidate while addressing the media on Thursday, December 10, also listed concerns he had about the general conduct of the election.

On Friday, December 11, 2020, information started circulating on social media that Mrs Mensa had travelled out of Ghana to America.

The posts seem to be suggesting that the EC chairperson had vacated her post amid the backlash from Ghanaians.

But in the video which she recorded on the day of the rumours, the EC chairperson was heard saying even though she had a valid visa, she was not going to travel as being speculated.

Mrs Mensa indicated that she loved Ghana very much and will not abandon it at this crucial time.

"I’m sure they will say this is not live, I have a valid visa to the United States but I love my country and I am not travelling at this time. I love my country," she said while the other with him concurred with her.

Prior to the video of Jean Mensa popping up, the EC has discounted the speculation on social media that its chairperson had travelled.

In a statement released on Friday, December 11, 2020, the EC described the information making rounds as fake.

The statement emphasised that Mrs Mensa and all other commissioners were at post discharging their duties.
