Elections 2020: NDC women storm Ashanti region to protest ‘fraudulent’ results

- Members of the women’s wing of the NDC held a demonstration on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in the Ashanti region against the results of the just-ended elections

- Wearing red and black attire, the women matched through some principal streets of the region to urge the EC to do the “right thing”

The women’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, hit the streets of the Ashanti region to protest against the results of the just-ended general election.

Dressed in red and black attire, the aggrieved women reechoed former President John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the election was flawed.

The women described the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa’s posture before, during, and after the polls as “shameful”.

“We’re saying that declaration was wrong and so the right thing must be done,” the national women’s organiser of the NDC, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo won the elections, the EC announced on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Mahama rejected the results of the 2020 elections, describing it as fundamentally flawed, arguing that the declaration was a clear violation of the law because the commission did not follow the rules set out to conduct the elections.

But, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) disputed the NDC’s claims. It said the figures it collected independently validated what the EC announced on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Supporters of the NDC since the declaration of Akufo-Addo, the winner of the elections embarked on a series of demonstrations to express their displeasure over what they said was rigged polls nationwide.

Meanwhile, the immediate ex-chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev. Emmanuel Asante, warned the NDC it won’t be allowed to jeopardise the peace of the country.

The party, he said must desist from inciting supporters onto the streets and follow the laid down legal channels for the resolution of electoral disputes.
