At least seven shops have been ravaged by fire in Koforidua in the Eastern region, destroying properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The incident which occurred around 10:15ma on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, was reportedly caused by an electrical fault on the main power supply pole of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Starr FM reported.
The inferno quickly spread to the nearby shops, among them a popular one called ‘Obaa Yaa’.

The public relations officer of the Eastern Regional Fire Service, A.D.O Kwamena Beadio said investigations into the incident have begun, Class FM reported.

In a separate development, a court in Accra charged five supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with conspiracy to commit murder.
Sources close to the development told YEN.com.gh that the five were part of some 52 persons arrested in connection with the electoral violence that ensued in the Odododiodio constituency during the just-ended general election.
Two persons died from the violence.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Lante Vanderpuye was also briefly arrested over the chaos.
The case against the five has been described as politically orchestrated.
According to the research assistant of Vanderpuye, Sammy Laryea, the suspects have been granted bail to re-appear on February 3, 2021.
Addressing the media after the court proceedings, he refuted claims that members of the party were wielding guns. “Nobody has fired a weapon; no member of the party was seen rioting,” he stated.
For him, the supporters arrested were innocent of the murder charge handed them.
Meanwhile, the women’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, hit the streets of the Ashanti region to protest against the results of the just-ended general election.
Dressed in red and black attire, the aggrieved women reechoed former President John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the election was flawed.
The women described the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa’s posture before, during, and after the polls as “shameful”.
