Police successfully disperses aggrieved NDC protesters at the EC headquarters

- The Accra Regional Police Command have succeeded in dispersing NDC supporters at the Electoral Commission headquarters

- The protesters massed up there in the early hours of Thursday, December 17, 2020

The Accra Regional Police Command have succeeded in dispersing a group of people believed to be supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

These group of people massed up at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission on Thursday, December 17, 2020 to demonstrate against the EC’s declaration.

The EC chairperson declared President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December general election on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

The declaration by the electoral commission sparked a lot of controversy and misunderstandings across the country.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that scores of supporters and sympathisers of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, were engaged in a face off with police personnel at the Electoral Commission, EC, headquarters.

The activities of the protestors led to the blocking of the Kanda Highway and other sections of the Ridge enclave and the firing of tear gas

The Director of Operations at the Accra Regional Command, ACP Kwesi Ofori has said the police is moving practically and strategically to make sure that they keep the peace, in the country.

Former president and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama rejected the results of the 2020 elections.

At a press conference, Jean Mensa announced that Akufo-Addo had polled a little over 51 per cent while Mahama got a little over 47 per cent.

Mahama stated without mincing words that he was not going to accept the EC's results.

Former president Mahama in a separate report, described the commission's chair, Jean Mensa as the worst the country has seen following the aftermath of the 2020 general elections declarations.

Speaking in Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East Region on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, when he paid a visit to the families of victims of the electoral clashes, he blamed her for all that happened.

Mahama added that if the country was a more advanced one, the EC Chairperson would have been forced to resign in shame.

He added that the EC has soiled the country's reputation that has been tagged as the beacon of democracy for a long time.
