Sir Ian McKellan: Lord of the Rings actor gets the Covid vaccine at 81

Sir Ian McKellan has taken to social media to share his experience of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine in his home country of England.

The legendary stage and screen performer turned 81 this year and posted about receiving the vaccine from the National Health Service, and praised the NHS for their professionalism and fight against the virus.

Sir Ian raved about the process to get the vaccine and added that he'd happily recommend getting the shot to anyone who asked about it.

The encouragement is a positive one in light of many fake news stories, rumours and unsubstantiated claims about possible vaccines being circulated online.

Sir Ian captioned his tweet with:

"I feel very lucky to have had the vaccine. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone."

He was also quoted by itv as being incredibly complimentary of the British health institution:

"That's the real bonus of all this, to watch and see what works in this country and what doesn't work - and it seems to me the NHS is right at the top of the list for institutions that do work."

The actor also added the importance of vaccinations and immunity as a whole, saying that modern science is the reason he's lived until his eighties and not had to fend off deadly diseases:

"Of course, I know I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for the NHS. I'm a little bit older than the NHS but when I was a kid, having good medical treatment available when it was needed - what a wonderful notion"

In other celebrity and Covid-related news, it was recently reported on fans of Somizi calling the star out for being irresponsible at an event he was attending.

Somizi Mhlongo had his fans in a bit of a frantic buzz after he posted a video to Instagram that showed him attending an event recently. The celebrity was having a good time and, in the footage, can be seen playing around on a drum set that was present at the party.

Followers of the multi-talented star were outraged as the video also showed other party-attendees who were not wearing masks, social distancing or making any effort to be considerate of the current pandemic.

Somizi's followers had lots to say. Some were positive comments about his drumming skills whilst others were vocal about the guests at the party not adhering to Covid-19 recommendations:
