Election 2020: Thousands of NDC supporters in Ketu South to protest ‘stolen’ verdict

The National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) nationwide protest against the results of the just-ended general election continuous unabated.
Thousands of supporters of the party in the Ketu South constituency of the Volta region are the latest to join the crusade.

They took to the streets of the constituency on Thursday, December 17, 2020, to demonstrate what they labeled as a “stolen” verdict following the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as president-elect.
The chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, declared Akufo-Addo the winner of the presidential race in the Monday, December 7, 2020, election.
Mahama rejected the outcome as fundamentally flawed. He said the declaration was a clear violation of the law because the commission did not follow the rules set out to conduct the elections.

He said in a recent interview with VOA that he would only concede after a forensic audit into the results declared by EC was conducted.
The Ketu South demonstration which lasted for three hours comes on the back of a similar exercise in the Ashanti region by the NDC’s women’s wing on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
Dressed in red and black attire, the aggrieved women reechoed former President John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the election was flawed.
The women described the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa’s posture before, during, and after the polls as “shameful”.
Meanwhile, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said no amount of “whining” can change President Nana Akufo-Addo’s victory in the just-ended general election.
The general secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, said the president emphatically won the election. The votes difference between the two candidates is 517, 231 with four percentage points, one of the highest since 1996.
According to Boadu, Ghanaians are at a loss as to how a vote difference of 517,231 can be deemed contentious.
