The National Democratic Congress in the Northern Region is questioning the police how an NDC person could have shot its own party supporter the during the celebration of the declaration of the NDC candidate as winner of the Savelugu seat.
The party said the police should be targeting the likes an NPP sympathizer who they named Gabby for allegedly shooting at the police station.
Addressing a press conference in Tamale Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC Mohammed Abdul Salam said the party believes is a plot to hang a murder charge on the PC elect.
He said why the police would search the premises without the owners and a warrant if the police had no ill motive.
Mr. Salam also quizzed why the police has jumped into conclusion that the office belongs to the PC when it the NDC’s property.
”Our MP elect has not have an office, if there was any search were they took our table, computers and other things without our presence and a warrant that office belongs to the NDC Savelugu constituency and not the PC” he added “it doesn’t make sense for anybody to think that somebody who is part of jubilant people of the same party will shoot themselves”. He told the media
Mr. Salam accused the police of illegality by searching the party office without a warrant.
The Northern Regional Secretary of the party also accused the governing New Patriotic Party as those behind the shooting that led to the death of the 14-year-old girl in Savelugu at the NDC party office. He said the NDC has cooperated so far with the police therefore it was surprising to hear in the news at a press briefing yesterday by the police that the weapons were found in the office of the MP elect.
Mr Salem said the parliamentary candidate elect for Savelugu is a man of integrity whose 27 years of service as public servant as no criminal record adding that he is also a royal who will not engage in any criminal act. He stated that the attempt by the NPP to damage his reputation because of his victory will not washed.
