The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to go on Christmas and New Year break amid continuous nationwide protest by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the results of the just-ended general elections.
In a Monday, December 21, 2020, notice sighted by YEN.com.gh, the commission announced that the break will begin from Wednesday, December 23, 2020, and end on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Ghanaians on Monday, December 7, 2020, went to the polls to elect a new president and some 275 Members of Parliament.
Over 13 million voters took part in the exercise that re-elected incumbent, President Nana Akufo-Addo, for another four-year term.
He beat his arch-rival, former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC by collecting 51.302% of total valid votes cast.

Mahama and the NDC rejected the outcome of the election, alleging that the verdict was “stolen.”
The party deployed a team of fact-finders to gather evidence of the alleged electoral irregularities and vote padding in favour of the governing NPP.
But, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) certified the presidential results as declared by the EC.
It said the figures it collected independently validated what the EC announced on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
CODEO’s certification of the results however did nothing to assuage the angry supporters of the NDC.
They since the declaration of Akufo-Addo, the winner of the elections embarked on a series of demonstrations to express their displeasure over what they said was rigged polls nationwide.
In other news, YEN.com.gh reported about the heartrending story of Fuseini Yusuf. The 51-year-old visually impaired is the father of five children between the ages 5 and 13.
The children are suffering from speech and mental disorders, according to a Starr News report.
