The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has explained the motive behind the violent protests by supporters of the party.

NDC’s supporters have staged a series of demonstrations across the country since the declaration of the outcome of the 2020 polls.

They were angry the results did not go the way of the NDC and its presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, who has refused to concede defeat to his main contender, President Akufo-Addo.

Akufo-Addo defeated Mahama and over ten other presidential candidates in the elections to emerge as Ghana’s president-elect.

Speaking to GHone TV’s Serwaa Amihere on Thursday, December 24, 2020, and monitored by YEN.com.gh, Asiedu Nketia attempted to provide the real reasons for the nationwide protests by the NDC supporters.

According to him, the actions of the supporters were not about the failure of Mahama to deliver to the NDC the presidency.

“It’s about our sovereignty that has come under attack,” the experienced NDC scribe stated.

Meanwhile, in an earlier report on YEN.com.gh, Asiedu Nketia intimated that the street protests could get murkier and out of control.
