Key among such sad events were the deaths of very prominent Ghanaians within the year.

1. J.J. Rawlings:
Former President Jerry John Rawlings passed away on November 12, 2020, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
His death which happened just a few weeks after he buried his mother sent shockwaves across social media.
Rawlings' final funeral rite is yet to be held. He was 73 years.
2. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John):

The former NPP general secretary died on July 1, 2020, after reportedly suffering from complications of COVID-19.
Sir John was the CEO of the Forestry Commission at the time of his death. He was 67 years old.
3. Atu Mould:
The businessman passed away in Accra on November 17, 2020, after a short illness.
Mould who was the CEO of Makam Plant Hire, a logistics company, was the nephew of Alex Mould and Betty Mould-Iddrisu.
He was 48 years old.
4. Victor Newman:

The Director of Research at the presidency passed away on December 10, 2020, after a short illness.
Newman, a founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) passed on at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.
5. Apraku My Daughter:

The popular Christian preacher, Emmanuel Kwak Apraku, passed away on May 20, 2020. he was found unresponsive in his house at Awutu Bawjiase in the Central region.
A once-prominent pastor, the circumstances of Aparaku's death caused a lot of sadness.
6. Nana Adjei Sikapa:

The veteran Peace FM broadcaster passed away on June 20, 2020. Nana Adjei Sikapa was said to have suffered from a recurring sickness.
He was 55 years old.
7. Kwadwo Wiafe:
Neat FM Drive Time host Kwadwo Wiafe passed away on June 4, 2020, sending shockwaves on social media.
The young man passed on at the Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra after a short illness. He was 33 years old.
8. Ekow Quansah Hayford (Mfantseman MP):
Ekow Quansah Hayford passed away on the dawn of October 9, 2020, after he was attacked while returning from a campaign.
He was campaigning for re-election in the 2020 elections which were barely two months away.
