According to Mahama, the election-related violence has showed that the country was “moving backwards, instead of not forward” just as envisioned by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Addressing Ghanaians on the election petition and other related matters, former president Mahama made these known.

“We are unravelling the very fabric of our democracy. We are risking the loss of three decades of work of progress,” he added in an address after filing his petition earlier on Wednesday.

In Mahama’s view, such imagery resembled the turbulent times in Ghana’s democratic history that he thought were in the past.

Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama says his refusal to concede defeat in the 2020 polls was borne out of principle rather than an insatiable desire for power.

Addressing Ghanaians on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, after officially filing a petition to challenge the outcome of the elections at the Supreme Court, Mahama said he knew what it was to concede.
