Court dismisses NDC's application to stop swearing-in of NPP MP-elect for Techiman South

- The NDC has filed an application at the Wenchi High Court seeking to place an injunction on the swearing-in of the NPP MP-elect for Techiman South

- But, the court dismissed the application, saying that will be unfair to the people of the constituency

A High Court in Wenchi in the Bono Region has thrown out an application seeking to place an injunction on the swearing-in of the Member of Parliament-elect for Techiman South.

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah won the parliamentary election in the constituency in the 2020 general elections.

He won the seat polling 49,682 votes.

Delivering its ruling on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the court presided over by Fred Nawura, observed that halting Korsah’s swearing-in will be unfair to the constituents of Techiman South.

In a separate development, the Supreme Court has quashed the interim injunction placed on the gazetting the electoral results of the Hohoe parliamentary results showing Peter Amewu as the winner.

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court quashed the decision of the Ho High Court aimed at stopping Peter Amewu from holding himself as MP-elect of the Hohoe constituency.

By this, Peter Amewu can freely go to parliament and would be sworn into the eighth parliament of the fourth republic to represent his constituency.

The parliamentary election in the Hohoe Constituency resulted in the declaration of the New Patriotic Party's John Peter Amewu as the winner, having obtained 26,952 (55.18%) of the popular votes.

On December 22, 2020, the results of the parliamentary elections nationwide were gazetted by the Electoral Commission.

In other news, there was a bit of a subtle war of words traded between Ghana's Majority and Minority leaders in Parliament following the delivery of President Akufo-Addo's State of the Nation Address.
