Mahama congratulates Bagbin; states what NPP wanted to do with armed soldiers in parliament

Former President and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has congratulated the newly-elected Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

In a post sighted by YEN.com.gh on his verified Facebook handle, John Mahama indicated that the election of Bagbin shows how strong the democracy of Ghana can be.

However, he admitted that at the same time, the night of January 6 to the morning of January 7, is a day of infamy, which will go down as a low point in our democratic practice.

Also, on the subject of deploying military in the house parliament, John Mahama indicated that:

The use of the military in civil democratic processes has become a major worry and gives the impression that this administration is continually seeking to resurrect the exorcised ghosts of our military past.

Before concluding his remarks, Mahama urged the parliament to conduct an investigation into the issue, as well as, the snatching of ballot papers by the Tema West MP.

As YEN.com.gh earlier reported, honourable Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, the MP-elect for Tema West Constituency snatched ballot papers during the counting of election results in parliament.

In a live telecast monitored by YEN.com.gh on the verified Facebook handle of JoyNews, the National Democratic Congress caucus of MPs started jubilating just before the incident took place.

According to some of the NDC MP-elects who spoke to the media, their candidate, Alban Bagbin garnered 138 votes in total.
