There are going to be a lot of checks and balances in Akufo-Addo's second term in office as the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) would be on the look out.

The NDC has said the party’s caucus in parliament will not allow any 'thief' be passed to become a minister.

According the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, they would participate fully in the vetting of Akufo-Addo’s Ministers despite its position not to recognize the President.

Speaking at a press conference, Asiedu Nketiah said the decision to participate in the vetting exercise is in the national interest.

“We’ll participate in the vetting, because taking part is not meant to approve alone. It’s also meant to block thieves from becoming ministers,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will not acknowledge Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Ghana’s president.

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Friday, January 8, 2021, the general secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said: “Let me state without any equivocation that the NDC shall not recognize Akufo-Addo as the President of Ghana until all issues surrounding his flawed elections are satisfactorily resolved.

In other news, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 7, 2021, took the oath of office for a second term after defeating former President John Dramani Mahama in the keenly contested 2020 polls.

Speaking at the ceremony witnessed by heads of state from across Africa and other dignitaries, the president congratulated Alban Bagbin for emerging as the country’s Speaker of Parliament after hours of chaos in the lawmaking chamber.

He acknowledged that this is the first time in the lifetime of this republic that the president from one party will be obliged by the will of the people to work in all sincerity and cooperation with the Speaker from another party.
