President Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 14, 2021, said without a shred of equivocation that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the 2020 election.

His comments come on the back of the Supreme Court’s decision to allow John Mahama to rectify some errors in his petition, challenging the outcome of the election.

But, addressing the leadership of the NPP in the Greater Accra Region, Akufo-Addo insisted Ghanaians gave NPP a second mandate.

According to him, the petition challenging his victory is nothing but “noise”.

“One moment they claim they gained 139 of the parliamentary seats, another they say 145. They are not sure as to how many. All these claims turn out to be false,” the president stated.

Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah would lead the bench that would hear Mahama’s election petition.

The court on Thursday granted Mahama’s request to amend errors in his petition.

He mistakenly asked the court to order a rerun of the election between him and the Electoral Commission (EC) instead of Akufo-Addo in the petition.

The case was adjourned to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, for pre-trial to commence.

Akufo-Addo won the elections, according to the results, declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

He collected 51.302% of the votes to defeat Mahama, who polled 47.359%.

The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.
