President Nana Akufo-Addo says Ghana’s future is in the hands of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The president who was speaking to the leadership of the party in the Greater Accra Region continued that Ghanaians trust the NPP to lead them to economic emancipation.

“The majority is with us, so, let us be very clear in our minds. Our opponents with all the shouting do not have the support of the majority of the people,” he stated.
“The future of Ghana and this country is in our [NPP] hands and is dependent on our actions,” he added.

Touching on the petition challenging his electoral victory in the 2020 elections, Akufo-Addo insisted without a shred of equivocation that the NPP won the election.

His comments come on the back of the Supreme Court’s decision to allow John Mahama to rectify some errors in his petition.

He mistakenly asked the court to order a rerun of the election between him and the Electoral Commission (EC) instead of Akufo-Addo in the petition.

In granting the motion for the amendment, the court held that the typographical errors sought to be corrected materially did not affect the substance of the case.

On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, Mahama filed the petition to challenge the outcome, a decision he said was borne out of principle rather than an “insatiable desire for power.”

He wants a re-run of the elections between him and Akufo-Addo, claiming that there was no winner contrary to the EC declaration.

Akufo-Addo won the elections, according to the results, declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

He collected 51.302% of the votes to defeat Mahama, who polled 47.359%.

The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.

The case was adjourned to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, for the pre-trial to commence.
