A nurse has reportedly died of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Upper East regional capital of Bolgatanga.

The deceased was a nurse at the War Memorial Hospital in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.

A GNA report YEN.com.gh has sighted indicates that that the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Mr Habib Mahama has confirmed the death of the nurse.

According to the GRNMA municipal chairman, the nurse in question passed away on Friday, January 15.

He is reported to have revealed that the late nurse was working at the paediatric unit of the War Hospital as a general nurse.

The hospital, he added, has had 15 of its staff test positive for COVID-19 and must therefore have mass testing in order to curb any further infections.

Mr Mahama also called on the management of the hospital to close down the facility for fumigation to ensure a safe environment for health care delivery

“All is not lost, we have to observe the necessary protocols to make sure that we keep ourselves safe. We also want to call on authorities of the health care system to ensure that the necessary Personal Protective Equipment and other logistics are provided for our members to enable them work without fear,” he reis quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, recently stated that Ghana’s coronavirus cases are on the rise but not alarming.

The country had at least 1,330 active cases of the contagion with 191 new additions as of the time of his statement on January 13, 2021.

But according to him, the situation is not alarming but manageable.

“We have an increasing number but it’s not an alarming figure,” Kuma-Aboagye was quoted as saying.
