I’ll never contest Mahama for NDC flagbearership - Ofosu-Ampofo denies Gabby’s claim

- Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has said he will never challenge John Mahama for the NDC’s flagbearership

- It follows a claim by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko that he had intentions of doing so

- The NDC’s National Chairman, therefore, urged the party to ignore the claims

The National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has denied claims that he intends to contest John Mahama for the flagbearership of the party in 2024.

This comes on the back of assertions by a leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, that he is seeking to challenge Mahama for the opportunity to lead the umbrella fraternity into the 2024 elections.

"I have no desire to challenge His Excellency John Dramani Mahama either today or tomorrow for the flagbearership of our great party,” he added.

In other news, Ofosu-Ampofo said the spirit of Jerry John Rawlings would see the party through the 2020 election petition.

Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC in the 2020 election, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, filed a petition before the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the 2020 presidential race.

According to him, the election was rigged in favour of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Akufo-Addo defeated him in the election to secure another four-year term; collecting 51.302% of the votes cast against the latter’s 47.359%.

The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.

Mahama wants a rerun of the election between him and Akufo-Addo, stating that there was no winner contrary to the outcome declared by the Electoral Commission.
