Let us forgive Rawlings for excesses in his life - Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle

- Ghanaian Roman Catholic Church archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle has admonished the nation to forgive the excesses of the late JJ Rawlings

- According to him, this will be the first step in giving any form of honour to the late president for his contribution to the nation

Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle, a Ghanaian bishop of the Roman Catholic Church has urged the entire nation to forgive the late former President Jerry John Rawlings for the extremities in his life.

Speaking at the requiem mass organized in memory of the former president, the archbishop explained that the message was laid on his heart by the Lord for Ghana.

According to him, JJ Rawlings was always on the next move for righteousness by his own means and did everything possible to meet the needs of the poor.

"He longed for the coming of the kingdom of Heaven. He worked for justice to be established for the underprivileged and he could not tolerate the slow pace at which this was coming to birth," the bishop further added.

After saying this, the archbishop went a step to further to announce that if there will be any form of honour that can be accorded to Rawlings, he must first be forgiven for his excesses.

In his own words:

“Beloved, if there is any legacy that we can uphold of Jerry John Rawlings, let us first and foremost forgive him for what in our eyes, and estimations, seemed, seemingly, excesses in his life,” he admonished"

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the former President Ft Lt Jerry John Rawlings will be laid in state at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday and Tuesday (January, 25 and 26).

According to a press release by Kobina Andoh Amoakwa from Rawlings' Communications Directorate, a detailed programme has been laid out for members of the public and other state institutions to pay their respects.

The burial service which will take place at the Independence Square on Wednesday, January, 27 is open to members of the public.
