- Opposition MPs on the vetting committee have served notice that they will not pass nominees who go about shooting at people

- According to them, passing such a nominee will embolden officeholders to indiscriminately discharge firearms at the least of provocation

- Akufo-Addo sent a list of 46 nominees to Parliament for approval

NDC lawmakers on the Appointments Committee of Parliament will reject any nominee who has the penchant for shooting, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has warned.

“That shouldn’t happen,” the Bolgatanga East legislator stated on Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, and monitored by YEN.com.gh.

According to the former Deputy Attorney General, passing such individuals will send a bad message to the Ghanaian public regarding the Committee’s thoroughness in its scrutiny of nominees.

Dr. Ayine’s comments were about the incident involving Mavis Hawa Koomson who admitted to shooting at a voter registration centre.

She has been nominated as Ghana’s fisheries Minister-designate by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, has also been speaking on the commitments of the opposition MPs on the Committee to thoroughly scrutinise the nominees of the president.

Reacting to heightening fears among party folks that their lawmakers are susceptible to inducements to shirk their responsibilities on the Committee, Cudjoe-Ghansah, was emphatic on the pledge made by members against being induced.

"Nobody is going to take bribes from anybody,” she told Accra-based Starr FM on Monday, January 25, 2021. “We have vowed not to take any penny from anybody because we know how people struggled to get us where we are.”

President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 21, 2021, announced that he intends to have 46 Ministers in his second term.

He presented the list of the Ministers-designate to Parliament on the same day to kick in the vetting and approval processes.

It concludes 30 Ministers and 16 Regional Ministers, eight being women—six Ministers and two Regional Ministers.

Also, as part of his quest to cut down on his government size, the president scrapped the contentious Senior Minister Office as well as all the seven special Ministries he created in his first term.

Koku Anyidoho, the founder of the Atta Mills Institute, praised President Akufo-Addo for drastically cutting down the size of his government in his second term in office.

According to the immediate past deputy general secretary of the NDC in a tweet sighted by YEN.com.gh, the president kept his word by thinning his administration size.
