A former Chief of Staff under the Rawlings administration, Nana Ato Dadzie, has revealed how the late former president escaped death threats and plots over his life while in office.

Paying tribute to the late Jerry Rawlings, Ato Dadzie stated that “there were 77 attempts on Rawlings’ life”. He explains that these threats even convulsed the former president to stay away from his wife and family while administering his work as president of Ghana.

Also, Victor Smith, a close aide of the late former president Rawlings has revealed in a tribute how Mr. Rawlings suffered mood swings and was misunderstood by his political allies and opponents.

In his tribute, Victor Smith explains that the Late Rawlings “had mood swings and was predictable sometimes.”

Another telling truth in the tribute was how Jerry Rawlings came close to various death experiences both as a Junta and democratic leader.

“He had some close encounters with ‘death’ at different times during his adult life until he retired from the high office of head of state.”

Meanwhile, the Asafo groups and families of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings are demanding the release of his body to Anlo for the necessary rituals to be done before he is buried. The group petitioned the government through the Awadada of Anlo Torgbui Agbedi Awusu. They were led by their Spokesperson for the regent Torgbui Tamekloe, Mawuli Kplorfia.

If there is anything to know about Jerry Rawlings before his passing, it is the fact that he had some deep regrets.

The clergy has been on the receiving end of criticism from the late president who on various occasions has chided them for their contribution to corruption in the country.

Already, thousands of tributes have been pouring in commiseration with the Rawlings family. The book of condolence will also open to the public at the Accra International Conference Center with the president and other diplomats expected in the early days of the week.
