Election petition: Mahama files a motion to inspect EC’s documents

- According to the new motion, the former president wants to inspect all the documents the EC relied on in declaring President Nana Akufo-Addo president

John Dramani Mahama, the petitioner in the ongoing election petition trial, has filed a motion seeking to inspect documents from the Electoral Commission (EC).

The motion is expected to be moved during Tuesday’s hearing, YEN.com.gh gathered.

It is asking for the original copies of all constituencies’ presidential election results collation forms and summary sheets.

Meanwhile, Asiedu Nketia maintained that “every evidence” pointed to the victory of the former president in the December 2020 presidential election.

He made the remark after videotapes of him and other functionaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) including Mahama were played during the trial hearing.

The party functionaries including the former president claimed victory in the 2020 general elections contrary to the figures announced by the Electoral Commission (EC).

“My Lords, I implied that I expected President Mahama to win the elections. Every evidence was pointing at president Mahama’s victory,” he told the Court.

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, questioned the strength of John Dramani Mahama's case in the ongoing election petition trial.

He reacted to the thoroughness of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s lead counsel, Akoto Ampaw, in exposing deficiencies in Mahama’s case during cross-examination of the petitioner’s first witness, John Asiedu Nketia.

“If you don't have a balcony, do not make a monkey your pet: if you don't have facts to back your case, do not go to court oooo!,” Anyidoho tweeted.

The founder of the Atta Mills Institute has in recent times been a thorn in the flesh of the hierarchy of the umbrella fraternity.

Mahama filed a petition before the Apex Court to challenge the outcome of the 2020 presidential race.

He wants a rerun to be conducted between him and President Akufo-Addo.

Akufo-Addo defeated Mahama in the election to secure another four-year term; collecting 51.302% of the votes cast against the latter’s 47.359%.

The votes difference between the two candidates stood at 517, 231, representing a four percentage point, one of the highest since 1996.

This latest tweet of his was met with mixed reactions—where some praised him for his candour and others slammed him for being a hypocrite.
