COVID-19: 3 schools in Bono Region record nine confirmed cases

With the surge in active cases of the coronavirus disease, the reopening of schools has become something most people are not comfortable with.

News reaching YEN.com.gh, indicates that three institutions in the Bono Region have recorded nine confirmed cases among students since the re-opening of schools.

In a report filed by Joy News, the Deputy Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. John Ekow Otoo, in-charge of public health confirmed this.

Dr. Otoo however indicated that the affected students were in a stable condition, with the boarders under strict quarantine while the day-students were in their homes.

He said a lot of contacts have been traced among students as well as the staff of the schools and samples taken for testing.

He said only the school authorities and parents of the affected students were aware of the conditions, explaining that samples were taken in a very professional manner.

Meanwhile, it emerged that 40 students of an undisclosed school at Akosombo in the Eastern Region of Ghana have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to an article on myjoyonline.com, the information was disclosed by Dr Winfred Ofosu who is the Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service.

Dr. Winfred Ofosu preferred not to disclose the name of the school, but he indicated that all the students are currently asymptomatic and are responding to treatment really well.

According to the most recent update by the official website of the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service, the total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the Eastern Region so far is 2,953.
