Ambulance attack: Police arrest two suspects in connection with robbery

- Robbers attacked an ambulance and shot the driver in the head

- The driver of the ambulance died days after the incident

- The incident occurred on the Somanya to Adukrom road around 1:00 am Thursday, February 4, 2021

- Information available indicates 2 people have been apprehended in connection with the robbery incident

News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery attack on an ambulance which led to the death of its driver.

The former Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, stated that that the police have made arrests in a report filed by Citi News.

“The police are working seriously. They tell me they have arrested two suspects. But they are doing their own investigations and taking more leads as to how they can get to the bottom of this issue,” he said.

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, robbers attacked an ambulance rushing a pregnant woman in labor to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

The driver of the ambulance who was transporting the pregnant woman was shot by the gunmen around 1:00 am on the Somanya to Adukrom road.

The driver of the ambulance, Abraham Tetteh, however, did not make it while on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

His family is therefore seeking justice over the death of their relative.

The National Ambulance service is also requesting police security for the ambulances to ensure the safety of its drivers.

In other news, the Supreme Court on Thursday, February 11, 2021, ruled that Jean Mensa cannot be compelled to testify in the ongoing election petition trial.

Mensa who was the returning officer in the disputed 2020 presidential elections, was expected to mount the witness box to be cross-examined by the lawyers for the petitioner, John Mahama, in the trial.

Justin Amenuvor, the lawyer for the EC informed the court that he would not call any witnesses, arguing that the three witnesses called by the petitioner had not satisfied the burden of proof when they appeared before the court.

Tsatsu Tsikata who is the petitioner’s lead counsel, however, objected to the EC lawyer’s moves.
