We will settle the allowances of frontline health workers this week – Agyeman-Manu

The health Minister-designate, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has given an assurance that allowances to frontline health workers would be paid by the close of this week.

According to him, the delay in the payment of the allowances was due to the inconsistent data the ministry received.

He said he has tasked managers of various health facilities to review the list of frontline health workers who risked their lives.

He faced Parliament's Appointments Committee to be vetted for the position, as a requirement of the 1992 Ghanaian Constitution.

During his vetting, he made certain revelations ranging from the coronavirus pandemic, the National Health Insurance Scheme, and also on the construction of health facilities in various districts.

Kwaku Agyeman-Manu also revealed that some $100 million allocated for the ministry to fight against COVID-19 has been exhausted.

He made this disclosure when he appeared before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, to be vetted for the position of health minister.

The former health minister did not say what exactly the $100 million allocated to fight against COVID-19 was used for.

Agyeman-Manu however disclosed that some $120 million loan facility from the World Bank is about maturing for use by this Ministry to boost the COVID-19 fight in Ghana.

“The Ministry of Health initially got $100 million allocation to spend on COVID-19. That amount has been exhausted,” he said.

In other news, a 22-storey building under construction at the Airport Residential Area adjacent the Association International School has collapsed.
