COVID-19: 12 more deaths shoot Ghana’s fatality tally to 494; active cases now 6,948

COVID-19 has killed 12 more people in Ghana, pushing the country’s fatality tally to 494.

A total of 554 new COVID-19 cases were also recorded, shooting up the active cases to 6,948.

The statistics also revealed that currently, there are people with 113 severe conditions with 29 people in critical condition.

The Greater Accra Region leads with the highest number of active cases accounting for 3,741 infections.

The region with the second-highest number is the Ashanti Region with 1,256 active cases followed by the Western Region with 582 cases.

These new figures are statistics from the last update on Thursday, February 11, 2021, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) website.

Central, Eastern, and Volta Regions also have 298, 262, and 248 active cases respectively.

While over 73,000 persons have so far been infected since Ghana recorded its first COVID-19 cases in March 2020, over 66,000 of that number have recovered and have been discharged.

The recent upsurge in the COVID-19 cases in Ghana has been largely blamed on the lack of adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols.

So far, all the 16 regions in Ghana have recorded cases of the virus.

In other news, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has suspended sittings for the next 21 days following a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The House has been suspended from Wednesday, February 10, 2021, to Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

The Speaker disclosed that some 17 Members of Parliament (MPs) and 151 Parliamentary staff and ancillary workers in Parliament have tested positive for COVID-19.
