President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, March 1, 2021, became the first person to be vaccinated after Ghana took delivery of some 600,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
He took the jab for the COVID-19 vaccine at the 37 Military Hospital with his wife Rebecca.

Ghana on February 22 took delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccine as part of the UN-led COVAX facility.
The vaccine arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on an Emirates Airlines cargo, EK787. It was received by a delegation led by the Minister of Health designate, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu.
Presidential advisor on health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare said the president being the first person to take the COVID-19 vaccine jab would assure Ghanaians that the vaccine is safe.
The vaccine is safe: President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to trust the safety of the vaccine in his latest address to the nation on the measures his administration put in place against the coronavirus pandemic.
The COVID-19 vaccination will begin on March 2 and it will be in phases.
Ghana also signed on to a consignment of the Russian Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine.
The emergency authorization was captured in a press statement by the Russian Government which states the Ghana government had “granted an emergency authorization” of the vaccine."
Ghana has had over 80,000 cases of the virus and over 5000 deaths.
In other news, the Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Delese Mimi Darko said Ghana is on the verge of manufacturing her own COVID-19 vaccine.
The FDA had already approved the clinical trial of herbal medicine, Cryptolepis sanguinolenta, for the treatment of COVID-19.
The herbal medicine developed by the School of Public Health at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was submitted to the FDA for the clinical trial in September 2020 and approval was granted in January 2021.
