Confirmed: Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to present 2021 budget on behalf of Ofori-Atta

- The Parliamentary Affairs Minister would be expected to present the 2021 Budget on Friday, March 12

- He would be standing in for the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta

The Majority Leader and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu would be presenting the 2021 Budget statement.

He would be expected to present the 2021 Budget to Parliament on Friday, March 12, 2021.

The presentation of the budget is in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).

In October 2020, Ofori Atta presented the 2021 Expenditure in Advance Appropriation.

Government expenditure for first quarter of 2021 was estimated at GHȻ27.34 billion, with total revenues and grants expected at GHȻ13.3 billion, whilst total expenditure and arrears clearance at GHȻ24.01 billion.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Ofori Atta had been flown to the USA for urgent medical attention.

The Public Relations Office of the ministry revealed in a press statement that Ofori Atta was suffering complications from his Covid-19 recovery since December 2020.

“After recovery from Covid-19 last December, Mr. Ofori Atta has medical complications which doctors advise, require further interventions not currently available in Ghana,” excerpts of the statement added.

Ofori Atta was expected however to spend two weeks abroad and return for his appearance before the Appointments of Parliament for vetting for his portfolio.

In other news, the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has called on opinion leaders as well as government to hold dear the matters of women and girls in the country.

As Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark International Women's Day, Rebeca Akufo-Addo stated that even though much has been done to ensure equality, the Coronavirus Pandemic further impresses on Ghana to do more for sustainable growth.
