Dumsor is not back; we have enough capacity - GRIDCO says
-Ghanaians on Sunday experienced a nationwide power cut
-The experience ignited fears that the country is back to the days of lingering outages
-But, GRIDCO maintains that is not the case and that there is enough capacity

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO) says the country is not back to the debilitating days of lingering erratic power supply, christened ‘Dumsor’.

“Dumsor is not back. There's enough generation capacity to meet demand,” GRIDCO’s Corporate Communications Manager, Ebenezer Amankwah, stated in an interview monitored by YEN.com.gh on Morning Starr on Starr FM on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
GRIDCO explained that Sunday’s nationwide power shutdown was due to a challenge in the power system.
According to Amankwah, such outages happen when there are gas flow challenges.
“But the assurance is that we have qualified engineers and a technical team who are on standby to address some of these challenges,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Institute for Energy Security (IES) called for transparency about the recent erratic power supply in the country.
“We think we haven’t had full details about what happened at the Obuasi and Prestea lines and what caused the tripping,” Fritz Moses, a research analyst with the Institute stated.
Away from Dumsor, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that President, Nana Akufo-Addo will today, Tuesday, March 9, 2021, deliver the first State of the Nation Address of his second term.
This is per Article 67 of the Constitution. The Article mandates the president to present to Parliament the address at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of Parliament.
President Akufo-Addo’s address to the nation comes days after the Supreme Court upheld his electoral victory in the December 7, 2020, general elections.
The president’s address is expected to cover every fabric of the country’s development including; economy, agriculture, environment, education, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Akufo-Addo will also be expected to address the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his 2020 electoral triumph over former President John Dramani Mahama.
The Court dismissed Mahama’s challenge to the 2020 presidential election results in the election petition trial on Thursday, March 4, 2021.
