Second prime suspect in Legon law lecturer, Prof. Benneh's murder freed

- The second suspect in Professor Emmanuel Benneh's murder has been freed

- The court freed him per advice from the Attorney General's office

The second suspect in the alleged murder of the late Professor Emmanuel Benneh, who was a University of Ghana law lecturer, has been freed.

Opambour Agya Badu Nkansah was freed after the Attorney General's office confirmed him as innocent of committing what he was being accused for.

According to a Graphic Online report, he case docket was forwarded to the AG on February 4, 2021 for advice.

The court, presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye on the other hand, charged the third suspect, Ebenezer Kwayisi, aka Junior, a 25-year-old apprentice mason, with abetment of crime, to wit murder.

Junior was however remanded to reappear on April 12 this year.

Prior to his discharge, the last time Nkansah appeared in court was on October 14, 2020. He was unable to make an appearance in court following his ill health since January 2021.

Nkansah was initially facing charges of conspiracy and murder together with the lead suspect of the case, James Nana Womba, who according to the police, confessed to killing Prof. Benneh.

James Womba was a cleaner in Prof Benneh's house died while on admission at the police hospital on October 17, 2020.

On September 12 2020, at about 8:00 in the morning, Prof. Benneh was found dead lying in a pool of his ownblood with his hands and legs tied while he was partly gagged with a piece of cloth.

According to examination on the body of the victim multiple marks of assault were discovered on the face.

It is the case of the prosecution that the accused in their caution statements narrated how each of them conspired with Womba to kill the victim.
