A 12-year-old genius, Alena Wicker, has gained admission to pursue her dream of becoming a NASA engineer at the Arizona State University, 11alive.com has reported.

Wicker will be majoring in Astronomical and Planetary Science and Chemistry at the prestigious university.

The 12-year-old child whiz who completed high school this year disclosed that she had been working on her dreams her entire life.

''I just had a goal I wanted to get to. I always dreamed of being an engineer because, throughout my life, I liked the building,'' she said.

Wicker realised her passion when she started building LEGOS at age four, her mother, Daphne McQuarter said.

The child prodigy admits that she is studious and ''kind of a nerd for the NASA-sized Legos''.

She will start ASU classes in the summer and would continue nurturing her gift.

Wicker will complete the four-year programme as a student of Astronomical and Planetary Science and Chemistry at ASU at 16.

Her goal is to build rovers like the one sent to Mars in the perseverance mission and she is planning it all as she heads to college.
