Eight people have been confirmed dead with 22 others sustaining various degrees of injuries in a gory accident on the Wa-Sawla highway in the Savannah Region.

The accident reportedly occurred on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at about 11:00 in the morning.

According to a report filed by StarrNews, a Kumasi bound Sprinter bus with registration number AS 3022-15 somersaulted and crashed into a bush in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

According to eye witness report, a wooden storage box fell off from another bus that overtook the Kumasi-bound Sprinter bus when it reached the outskirt of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.

Unfortunately, the Sprinter ran over the chop box, bursting a tyre.

The driver of the bus could however not control the direction of the vehicle as it ran into the bus and eventually killed some of its occupants and injured others.

The Sawla police have confirmed the incident, saying the 22 injured passengers are being treated at the Sawla District Hospital.

The deceased persons have been deposited at the Wa Hospital morgue for identification and collection.

As always, accidents do not just happen, but rather, it is often triggered by an external force or action like overspeeding, carelessness, wrongful over taking, drunk driving, and tired driving.

This accident was caused by a reckless overtaking of a vehicle which had not properly secured some of the goods it was carrying.

According to a report filed by Starrnews, the driver of the saloon car was trapped in a pool of blood behind the steering wheel of the mangled vehicle in an unconscious condition.
