The Minister of Finance designate, Ken Ofori-Atta, has finally returned to Ghana from the United States where he went for treatment for post-COVID-19 complications.

Ken Ofori-Atta was flown out of the country on Sunday, February 14, 2021, after suffering some complications following his recovery from the coronavirus disease in December.

According to a report filed by Asaase FM, Ofori-Atta spent about 30 days at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA, where he received specialised treatment for post COVID-19 complications.

Upon arrival on Delta Air at the Kotoka International airport on Saturday, 20th March 2021, Ofori-Atta drove straight to the Jubilee House, the seat of the country’s presidency to inform President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of his recovery and return back to base.

While away from the country, Ofori-Atta could not face the vetting committee to answer to questions regarding the sector he was going to man.

He however, is the only minister designate who was not able to meet the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

In his absence, the budget for the first time in history was presented by a non-finance minister, but by someone chosen by the president.

Ghanaians saw the 2021 budget statement read and presented by the caretaker finance minister and minister for parliamentary affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

Just like the finance minister designare would, he delivered the budget so well, but the signature white outfit of Ofori Atta was missing as Kyei Mensah appeared in parliament in suit.
